Subdomain receiving

This is an advanced feature and requires a paid plan with support for more than one domain.

Mailcast can optionally receive email sent to a subdomain of a domain you’ve added.

For example, if you have added mydomain.com and created an alias user@mydomain.com, you can also receive email for:

  • user@sub.mydomain.com

How matching works

Subdomain receiving only matches one subdomain level.

If you have subdomain receiving enabled (configured in domain settings), Mailcast will accept email on any subdomain of the configured domain. All email aliases of the main domain will be matched on the sub domain.

If you have an explicit sub domain configured with mailcast as a domain, that sub domain will take precedence over the subdomain receiving feature.

Address substitutions

When subdomain receiving is enabled, you can expand an alias to include a subdomain by using {subdomain} in the forwarding target.

Example forwarding target:

  • user+{subdomain}@gmail.com

If the email was sent to user@sub.mydomain.com, then the forwarding target will be user+sub@gmail.com.
If the email was sent to user@mydomain.com, then the forwarding target will be user@gmail.com.

DNS requirements (MX)

Subdomain receiving will only work if you have configured MX records for your subdomains.
You will need to either configure a wildcard MX record for your domain, or explicit MX records for each subdomain you want to receive on.
